Chris Jacobs and Brian Higgins Supporting the 2017 March for Science and the Local Environment

New York State Senator Chris Jacobs (R) and United States Representative Brian Higgins (D) will be present at the Buffalo March for Science to support maintained funding for the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative, which is currently under threat.

The federal initiative was implemented under President Bush at an annual budget of $300 million, which could be slashed to $10 million in the newly proposed federal budget, a 97% reduction in funding.

What’s at risk is undoing years of successful wildlife habitat restoration and addressing harmful shoreline waste from the region’s industrial history.

Both politicians have stated such deep funding cuts will negatively impact economic development and quality of life in the area.
