Gale Burstein on HPV Vaccination in WNY

Join us again on May 25th at the Center for Inquiry, 3965 Rensch Rd, Buffalo, NY at 7pm to hear from Dr. Gale Burstein, the Commissioner of the Erie County Department of Health, on human papallomavirus (HPV) vaccination. Dr. Burstein will be joined by a patient successfully treated for HPV in WNY, Ken Rogers and UB family medicine resident, Brendan Raleigh.

In 2016, 64 year old Ken Rogers was diagnosed with, and successfully treated for, oropharyngeal cancer caused by the human papallomavirus (HPV). He may have been carrying the common sexually transmitted infection (STI) hidden in his body for decades. It is estimated that about 3,200 new cases of HPV-associated oropharyngeal cancers are diagnosed in women and about 13,200 are diagnosed in men each year in the United States. Ken was treated at Roswell Park Cancer Institute. He will be talking about his experience and that of several of his peers, and the need for awareness and prevention.

Brendan Raleigh, will join the Q & A portion of the presentation. Brendan is a third year family resident at UB family medicine of Amherst. He is originally from east aurora and went to UB for med school. He looks forward to the event as a physician routinely performing HPV prevention measures.
